My Hair!

One thing I’ve not really addressed on here is my hair. Today I thought I’d take the time to write all about it, from what products I use day to day, what I get done at the hairdressers and what hairstyles I usually go for.

image

First it’s probably worth telling you a bit about my hair in genral. My hair is naturally a cool toned medium blonde, an eight to seven in hairdresser terms (chart below!). Since the age of ten I’ve been getting my hair highlighted (which I’ll explain a bit later), so the main colour in hair is now a nine to eight. My hair is a normal thickness, but is quite silky and soft, so it doesn’t have much volume.

My older sister is a fully qualified hairdresser but doesn’t do that for her job anymore. I’m the only person that gets my hair done by her which is amazing, as what I get done costs around £120 in a salon! I get my hair done every six months (which usually turns into a year) and I get a trim which is usually from half an inch to an inch off, and every second time I get a three colour full head of highlights, and the other times I get a two colour T-section. For my lowlight I get seven, and for my highlights I get a ten and a twelve (only reached with dye, not a natural colour). This time round I decided to also get semi permenant pastel pink balayage which turned out well. It’s all washed out now, five weeks later, but I don’t have any good photos!

I usually wash my hair every five to seven days, but I know not many people can go anywhere near that long! On days one and two, I wear it down, either wavy or straight, on day three I wear it half up half down, on day four I wear it in a ponytail, and the last day or two, boxer braids.

And lastly the products I use on my hair. I have a couple of  shampoos and conditioners that I use. One of my favorites is Tresemme Illuminating Blonde shampoo and conditioner which illuminate (obviously!) and enhance the different blonde tones in my hair. I also love using Provoke Touch of Silver shampoo and conditioner which takes away the brass/gold tones that blonde and platinum hair tends to get. My hair gets really tangled and one of my favorite products for this is Aussie Miracle Hair Insurance leave-in conditioner which I spray in my hair to protect and detangle it. One of my must have hair products is Batiste dry shampoo which adds volume and absorbs oil, which is good to use inbetween washes. As I’ve mentioned, my hair is quite soft and silky so sometimes a bit of texture is nesseccary. To achieve this I like to use Tresemme Perfectly (un)done sea salt spray which just adds more texture and makes the hair easier to work with and appear more volumised.

Things You’ll Forget But Need!

This post is a little bit different but I really do think that it’s necessary. When tavelling you have so much to think about and it can be quite stressful, and often it can lead to forgetting the things you wouldn’t first think about, but you really do need.
I thought I’d list a few of these things today, as I’ve been doing alot of traveling around France recently. These are things that I’ve forgotten on this trip, and previous trips (minus the time I forgot all of my bikinis when going on a beach holiday, because that’s an obvious one, right?!) but let me know if I’m forgetting anything, as it will be useful to know. I hope you enjoy, and this prevents you from forgetting something!

There is nothing worse than having a headache or being in pain, especially when on holiday or while travelling; so remembering pain releif is important! I always make sure I have ibuprofen with me just incase me or someone I’m with needs it.

More often than not, I forget my sunglasses. I end up having to by a cheap pair in a horrible shop somewhere in the resort, following being practically blinded by the sun. It seems like an obvious thing but they’re easy to forget, so always make sure to have a pair to make life a little bit easier.

When sitting in an airport, on a plane, or even on a sunbed enjoying the sun by the pool, it’s nice to have a magazine or book to read. Especially when sitting on a plane, it can be a bit boring so having something to read is always good.

image

There is nothing worse than not being able to sleep on the plane because the people in front are having a very loud conversation about how awful the weather in Britain is, or about how much weight they’ve lost for this holiday. This is a good moment to have ear plugs so you can no longer hear their conversation and you can fall asleep. And you never know if one of your friends actually snores or talks in there sleep.

If you end up being ill, or hurting yourself on holiday, you’ll probably need medical care, and to avoid paying you’ll need your health card. I have my E1 11 card (European health card), so I can get free medical attention if need be. You should probably get one depending on where you’re travelling to.

The last thing that no one things about is an adapter. You’ll need one of these if the country you’re travelling to has different plugs than the country you live in. I have British plugs at home, but in this case am taking European adapters so I can plug in electronics.

Whats in my makeup bag? – Northern France

If you didn’t know already, I’m currently enjoying an amazing holiday in the North of France – Honfleur, Bayeux, Beauvoir, Paris, Calais, etc…
I don’t know if it’s just me, but I love knowing what people have in their makeup bags, especially the things in their holiday makeup bags, that have made it into the small selection of products they need to have with them. I hope you enjoy this as much as I have writing it, and let me know a few products that you have in your holiday makeup bag!

Selecting the products for my base wasn’t that hard; I usually just stick to the same products for my base anyway. The foundation I chose to take is Rimmel Wake Me Up foundation because it offers a medium buildable coverage, a healthy natural finish, and good staying power. I like to have a few concealers on hand so I took my favorites – Collection Lasting Perfection concealer which has high coverage, that will cover literally anything, Rimmel Wake Me Up concealer which is great for the under eye area, and Avon stick concealer which has a thick texture, sure to cover any blemish, but also works well as an eye base. And lastly, powder, a must have for me, and my favorite one is Rimmel Stay Matte pressed powder.

image

Next, bronzer, aka my one true love. Most people say they couldn’t live without mascara because it opens there eyes, concealer because it can cover imperfections, but for me bronzer comes first! It gives my face more depth, and it makes my skin look sunkissed and beautiful. My favorite is currently L’Oreal Glam Bronze bronzing powder which gives that stunning sunkissed glow. Another love of mine is contour, and my favorite contour kit is deffinetly Seventeen Define & Conquer contour kit. With these two products, I could do anything!

image

Eyes for me was pretty difficult – choosing your favorite of each thing, near impossible. I finally decided that my favorite eyeshadow palette is Stila In The Moment eyeshadow palette which has the perfect colours for any occasion; going to the beach, going shopping, or partying all night. I also just had to throw in my Urban Decay Naked basics palette – how couldn’t I? Eyeliner was a bit easier but not much and I took my Lancôme Le Crayone Khol noir eyeliner pencil because with a black eyeliner pencil, your sorted. Another eyeliner I like alot is my Avon Glimmersticks diamonds eyeliner pencil in ‘Emerald Glow,’ which has a super blendable texture and could add the perfect pop of colour to the eyes. I must always have a liquid eyeliner with me, and one of my favorites is L’Oreal Super Liner black laquer. The mascaras I’ll be taking are Maybelline Lash Sensational mascara which is my favorite mascara, and also Max Factor 2000 Calorie mascara which is a new product for me. And how could I forget brows? I’ll be taking my Maybelline Master Shape eyebrow pencil to fill them in with.

image

By far the hardest part for me was lips. How can you not take them all? I finally decided on taking six. First being MAC matte lipstick in ‘Honeylove,’ which is the perfect nude colour for me. Another favorite lipstick of mine is MAC cremesheen lipstick in ‘Creme Cup,’ which is a beautiful pink nude. I also love my L’Oreal collection exclusive colour riche lipstick in ‘Juliannes Nude.’ I just had to take Stila Color Balm lipstick in ‘Avery’ which is a beautiful coral pink. I also had to take another nude lipstick, so I chose Clinique Colour Pop lipstick in ‘Nude Pop.’ All of those colours were quite safe, so I had to take Makeup Reveloution lipstick in ‘Lady,’ for a statement lip. I couldn’t miss out lip liner so I took three MUA lipliners in the shades ‘Caramel Nougat,’ ‘Softly Lined,’ and ‘Red Drama.’

Using the right tools to apply your makeup is super important so I’m taking my favorite makeup brushes with me. For my face makeup I took my Real Techniques powder brush, my Real Techniques multi task brush, my Real Techniques sculpting brush, my Real Techniques essential foundation brush, and my Bare Minerals foundation brush. For my eye makeup I took my Real Techniques domed shadow brush, my Revlon double ended smokey eye brush, and four Fearne Cotton eye brushes.

What’s in my Holiday Washbag?

I’m currently on a ten day long holiday to France and I’m exploring many of the cities and towns in the North. I’m writing this while sitting in my suburban Paris hotel room, looking out to my view of Parisian rooftops – my idea of perfect.
I thought I’d share with you whats in my holiday washbag for this trip, as I find these types of posts really helpful as knowing what kinds of things to bring can be tricky, and they’re also one of my favorites to read.

Obviously when you’re traveling you have limitiations to what you can take, but I’m not very good at narrowing things down, and finding multi tasking products; I just take everything!

Skincare is the first thing I think of when I think ‘washbag.’ For me a good lip balm is essential and recently I’ve been loving my Carmex moisturising lip balm, and another favorite of mine is my Burt’s Bees beeswax lip balm. In hotter climates, it’s essential to protect yourself from the sun, so I like to use Nivea sun protect lip balm which has the SPF of 30. You will also need a good SPF face cream, and my favorite one is Simple protecting moisture cream which also has the SPF of 30. At night you don’t want to have SPF in your moisturiser so I like to use E45 cream as my skin can get extreamly dehydrated, especially in the sun. For removing all of your makeup it is essential that you have the right skin care to do so. I like to take Simple oil balancing face wash and I use that with my Foreo Luna mini which I love. An easy option for on the go is Garnier micellar water and my favorite toner is Boots tea tree and witch hazel toner.

image

Taking good care of your body is another important thing which we musn’t forget to do. The most important thing is making sure your skin doesn’t get damaged by the sun. Any sun cream will do so long as it at least a three star UVA rating on the back. My prefered on is Hawaiian Tropic silk hydration protective sun lotion with the SPF of 30. It has a four star UVA rating, so is classed a superior, and it is recommended my the skin cancer foundation. I’m not one to get a very good tan due to my naturaly pale skin, so sometimes a little bit of fake tan is nice! I use St Moriz tanning mouse in medium, which leaves a super natural, non orange colour, which lasts a week. A couple of other essentials are my Soap & Glory the righteous butter to moisturise skin and maintain a sun tan (real or fake!). I’m also taking my Dove invisible dry deoderant and a razor. I’m currently using Gillette simply venus dispossable razors.

image

The next obvious category is hair. I’m using John Freida sheer blonde shampoo and John Freida sheer blonde conditoner which brings out my blonde. A product I can’t live without, Batiste dry shampoo for a quick freshen up and a boost of volume. Some would find it hard to believe that my silky smooth hair would get extreamly messy, and is actaully near impossible to brush through. To solve this I love using Aussie miricale hair insurance leave-in conditioner which detangles my hair (and smells amazing). The hair brush I use is the Tresemme ceramic styling brush which I like alot. I also use the Boots thick and thin ponybands as they call them; I’d call them hairbobbles. And I use Boots kirby grips. Lastly for hair, I’m taking my Babylis hair dryer and my GHD straightners.

image

Then the random things with no categories. Chanel No5 perfume is a must have, and also for scents I like the Charlie black body spray. I hate having dry hands so my No7 protect and perfect day hand cream with the SPF of 15 will solve that, and I can’t forget my trusty Burt’s Bees lemom cuticle butter. Remember your toothbrush and toothpaste, I like Colgate max white toothpaste and any toothbrush, along with my Listerine fresh burst mouthwash. And the thing that you can’t forget, sanitary products. Whatever your preference may be and whatever brand you choose to use, just don’t forget them. I’ve been there, horrible. Never happening again!

10 Important Things I’ve Learnt!

In celebration of my birthday back on Thursday I put together a list of things I’ve learnt over the years. Some are small things which make that little difference, and others are quite big (for me anyway) which have effected my life in quite a big way and made it alot easier.

image

1. When trying to be seen as perfect in everyone elses eyes, you’ll lose yourself and forget who you really are.
2. Not loving yourself enough means that no one can love you enough as you deserve.
3. Pretending to be someone that your not is the worst thing you could do.
4. There is no time to waste on earth, but there is time to find yourself and find out what you want; there’s a big difference.
5. There is no time to stress over things that have already been done, just don’t do them again and learn from your mistakes
6. Appreciate everything and everyone; they don’t have to do what they do for you.
7. Take every oppertunity and say yes to as much as possible.
8. Everything you do is a learning oppertunity, so take something positive from everything.
9. You don’t have to be perfect all the time.
10. As long as you do everything to the best of your ability, and do as much as you can, you will always be appreciated.

Surviving Long Hours on the Road

Tonight I’ll be traveling from Scotland to Normandy, France, which takes over twelve hours, including a ferry journey. Tommorow is also my birthday, so as you can probably imagine, I’m super excited! Traveling on the road is certainly not my prefered mode of transport, so here are some of my tips to make traveling on the road for long periods of time that little bit easier. Give me your tips too, as I’ll be traveling in eight hours for more than twelve!

1. Stop frequently at petrol stations, shopping centers, wherever you can really, so that you can strech your legs, buy food, keep well hydrated, and use the bathroom. I think we might even be stopping in London while driving through!

2. Wear comfortable clothing that isn’t too tight fitting. I’m wearing my H&M Grey Oversized Lace Up Sides Jumper which is really cosy, and fashionable too. I’m also wearing my Topshop Houndstooth Leggings which are alot nicer than your average leggings, but are super comfy too. I haven’t decided which shoes I’ll be wearing, but I’ll deffinetly be taking them off anyway!

3. Bring a big bottle of water with you, so you keep well hydrated, and fill it up or buy a new one whenever you can. Also bring food and snacks with you incase you get a little bit hungry. I’d recommend an apple, and maybe a little packet of crackers or something.

4. Make sure you have a book and a magazine as there will be points where you would have any wi-fi or phone network. My favorite book is You’re The One that I want by Giovanna Fletcher, and my favorite magazine is Glamour.

5. Bring your phone and charger, and listen to music with your earphones. It will help pass time and you’ll be able to phone someone for a bit of company if traveling solo.

6. Bring a blanket incase you get cold, and bring a pair of fluffy socks too! I am a cold person so this is essential for me! Especialy because we’ll probably have to get some sleep while on the road as we’ll be traveling overnight. Whether I do or not, is unpredictable as I’ll be really excited as it will be my birthday and I also find it hard to sleep while traveling.
