Gender Equality

You have probably heard about the sustainable development goals, which are 17 goals to transform our world, made by the United Nations.

All of the goals are incredibly important, and are all being worked towards chaning. But the goal that I am most passionate about is goal number five.

Goal 5: Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls

Gender equality is not only a fundamental human right, but a necessary foundation for a peaceful, prosperous and sustainable world.

Changes have been made, but still everyday women and girls suffer discrimination and violence. This is not OK and we have power to change it.

Everyone should have equal access to education, health care, decent work, and representation in political and economic decision-making processes.

There are six ambassadors, from six different countries around the world, who are all passionate about this too. I heard more about the goal in detail from Louise Pentland (sprinkle of glitter), and Ingrid Nilsen, who are two of the ambassadors.

I’ve always felt strongly about gender equality, and now we have the power to change the world and sort all of thse issues. You have to tell people about this to make a difference; and honestly, it will make a huge difference!

To find out more information, see the facts and figures, and see what United Nations aim to achieve with this goal, have a look at the United Nations website. And also remember, this is one of the seventeen goals; they’re all massive problems that we have the power to change!
