What Makeup is to Me

Today I want to talk about my views on makeup and what it is to me. All people see it in a different way, and that is totally OK, but I feel that alot of people wear it for the wrong reasons – to fit in, because their friends were it, or they feel they have to hide behind it.

I don’t want anyone to feel that way, you should wear it to make you happy and for no one else! I understand the feeling self consious thing, everyone feels that way from time to time, and that’s OK!

When I’m having a bad skin day and I have to go out, I completly rely on my foundation! But for the most part, I enjoy doing it, and for me it is a form of self expression and it has become a big part of who I am.

image

Everyone seems to think I wear it for other people, e.g. boys. When I’m sitting touching up my makeup, people assume it’s because I’m about be around my crush, and it totally isn’t! Sure we want to look good around the boy or girl we like but I only put makeup on with my self in mind, and no one else.

Everytime someone sees me putting on makeup, they tell me to stop… WHY?! It has honestly got to the point where I feel as though I can’t put makeup on infront of certain people, and I really shouldn’t have to feel that way. Everyone should get to do what they want, and what they feel comfortable doing.

I love makeup and I will admit I wear it most days for myself, but I also feel just as confident without it. I think it is also really important to feel good in your own skin, but I totally understand if you don’t! I don’t by any means have perfect skin; it’s never clear, but I guess I just have quite alot of confidence.

There were three main things that inspired me to write this post. The first being I want all women and girls to feel as confident, and beautiful as they possibly can, with or without makeup. The next thing is I see young girls, as young as nine or ten, with full faces of makeup, and to be honest, it’s quite sad. Your wasting your flawless skin that you’ll kill to have back one day, and your spending a part of your childhood, that I used to play imaginary games, to wear makeup; there is plenty of time for makeup. And lastly because peoples perception of why I, myself wear makeup is really wrong! I’d only ever put makeup on for me.

image

Just to make it 100% clear, I am not in any way trying to force my opinion upon anyone. I just thought I’d share my opinion. It would be boring if we all thought the same so tell me why you agree or disagree with me, I’d love to know!

What do you think about this controversial topic?

The Apps I Have on my Phone

Today I thought I’d tell you what apps I have on my phone, what they’re for, and why I use them. Let me know what your favorite apps are.

image

Pinterest – I’ve used Pinterest for three or four years now. I love being able to see things in one place; I’m quite a visual person. I really enjoy pinning all sorts of things to my many different boards. You can save all of your favorite things in one place which is really good when you need to find them or get inspiration. You can follow me on Pinterest here. Leave your Pinterest names below so I can follow you too.

image

House of Fraser – I really like to look at clothes, beauty, homewear and travel things on this app. I swear it is this apps fault that I spend so much money! I really like the way the app works aswell. It also means you can get the first look at the sales, and the exclusive online ones.

image

Boots – Again another shopping app! The main purpose of me having this is so I can see how many points I have on my advantage card, see what offers are on in store and online, and also load my exclusive offers to my card. I also spend, spend, spend!

image

Transport for Edinburgh – The amount of times I get lost in my home town is just ridiculous. I often rely on this to tell me where the nearest bus stops are and how to get home. It’s also handy for telling me what time the next buses are.

image

Notes – I have notes already on my phone which I also use but I really like these ones because they also have checklists, shopping lists, and alot of other useful things too. On mine there are mainly lists of makeup I want to buy… how sad is that?!

image

Bloglovin’ – On this app I follow all of my favorite bloggers so the posts come up in my feed, and I never miss a thing. I should really add my blog but I’m far too lazy and forgetful, so remind me! You can also save your favorite blog posts so you can see them whenever you want. Love this app.

image

Messenger – I use messenger constantly to message my friends, send them pictures, video call them, or talk in group chats. I don’t have the Facebook app though, because it is unessesary when you can open it up in a browser. It also means you don’t have to have someones phone number to contact them which is really handy.

image

TripAdvisor – This such a useful app to have if you are someone who travels alot, eats out alot or spends alot of time at tourist attractions. It means you can see the reviews of somewhere so you pick the right place for you and also see pictures. You can post reviews and pictures too, which I do quite alot. Is it sad to say this is one of my favorite apps?

image

Twitter Just incase I want to tell the world my thoughts or what I’m up to, or show everyone a picture of me. Or if you want to get noticed by your fave celeb; my friend recently got a DM from Justin Beiber. Or if you need to see what you celebrity crush is up to. Twitter is useful for all of the above. You can follow me on Twitter here if you want.

image

ASOS – This app really is costly for me. I spend far too much money! They have so many nice items from Asos and so many other brands too; how can I resist? And they always have a sale on. Whats not to love?

image

Fit – No, this app doesn’t tell you to do any stupid exersizes that nobody can actually do, it just makes sure your doing enough exersize (walking counts!) every day, and not being lazy like we all want to be. It counts your steps automatically, so it knows how much you’ve walked, and anything else you’ve done, you can add it. It also counts the miles you’ve walked (or ran), how many calories you’ve burnt, and how much you’ve done. It is such an easy way to make sure you keeping fit.

image

Any.do – I honestly can’t thank this app enough. The amount of things I would forget to do if it wasn’t for this, is unreal, it’s a life saver. All you have to do is enter the thing you need to do, set a date and time for it, and your done. When it reminds you, you can snooze the task for however long you want, dismiss it, or tick done. It is so easy to use and I actually can’t imagine how much trouble I’d be in if it wasn’t for this.

image

Clue – This is a period tracker app, which some people find weird, but it is so useful, and normal… I mean come on ladies, is your life so simple, stress free and uneventful that you can track you period without this? No, you can’t. It is always really acurate (it can’t be if you have an irregular cycle though). Such a handy app to have.

image

WhatsApp – It was my sister that forced me into getting this app so she could send me pictures for free, and once I had used it there was no going back. It automatically has all of your contacts from your phone that use the app on it. I have a group chat with my Mum and sister (all of my friends use Messenger instead) and we constantly send eachother pictures, and I would have a costly bill if it wasn’t for this.

image

Journey – This is my favorite app ever I think. If I could only keep one app it would be this because it holds so many memories. All you do is enter the date, add a picture, and type whatever you want to remember the occasion. It is really nice to look back and go through all of the memories you’ve had. I love it.

image

WordPress – I use this all the time (using it as we speak) to write blog posts and keep track of my fairly low statistics. The app is really well designed and great for writing on the go, or uploading at the last minute. WordPress bloggers, you need this.

image

Spotify – I listen to music all the time, I couldn’t live without it… Spotify is my favorite music app I’ve ever used, and I’ve honestly tried them all. The good thing about this is you can either go premium or free. And premium isn’t much better than free. I would get this if you haven’t already.

image

BookWriter Free – I have this app because I sometimes enjoy to write books (and by write books I mean, 6 chapters at most, I get board easily). This app is really good as you can name your book, write it (obvs), create characters and descriptions, add notes, and put story lines and plots. It would be a great app for any aspiaring writers.

image

Kendall & Kylie – I am totally addicted to this! It is such a good game and Kendall and Kylie Jenner created it… whats not to love?

image

YouTube – Who doesn’t have YouTube? I use it all the time to watch videos, listen to music, and watch documentaries about all kinds of things; sinkholes, the Bermuda triangle, drug smuggling… or anything with Stacey Dooley.

image

Maps – I would honestly be lost without this, literally. I have no sence of direction and heavily rely on this.

And I have all of the things that are usually on a phone like emails, a camera, ect…

21/03/16 – Lets Have A Chat

image

Monday is my favorite day of the week. Yes, I know you must think I’m crazy, but I find Monday the easiest day. I feel more motivated, and I have alot of energy after being lazy all weekend. I have school which was good because Monday is the best school day, including a lesson with a lady who treats us like five year olds, and another with someone who is possibly the most laidback and disorganised person ever. It was upon arriving at school I got a message saying I was successful in the appliaction process of modeling. Unfortunatly this didn’t just turn out to be one agency, it was infact four… It meant endless phone calls and emails; it was stressful! That evening I decided to go out with a couple of my friends. We went to the harbour, which tends to be the place we go to ‘hang out,’ but we ended up in play park…

image

Friday was Good Friday, so there was a public holiday. I went alot of shopping and spent maybe just a bit too much money. I bought a few items from H&M, Boots, TkMax, Debenhams… Then I came home and ate chocolate.

I hope all of you have an amazing Easter Sunday if you celebrate it, and if you don’t have a lovley Sunday.

Also let me know what kinds of things your getting up to over Easter/Spring break. I’d love to know!

This week I have learnt that I should never do oragami again… Ever!

My Top 5 Nude Lipsticks

Here are my top five nude lipsticks…

Clinique Colour Pop Lip Colour + Primer in ‘Nude Pop,’ £16.00
I bought this lipstick about four months ago, and I always find myself going back to it. Whenever I need a really nice nude lip that will go with any eye makeup, this is what I go for. The colour is a kind of medium peachy nude, which is really pretty on my fairly pale skin colour and neutral skin tone. It also has a primer in the lipstick which makes it really comfortable to wear, and it lasts for a long time. I would recommend this to anyone who has pale to medium olive skin, and someone who has cool or neutral undertones.

image

MAC Matte Lipstick in ‘Honeylove,’ £15.50
I got this lipstick recently but I have compleatly fallen in love with everything about it. It goes with nearly any kind of makeup (wouldn’t wear it with pink toned eyes though) and looks beautiful. The colour is medium nude, slightly brown, and the amazing thing about this is, it would look good on any skin colour and tone. Eventhough it’s matte, it isn’t drying on the lips at all, and is comfortable to wear unlike some matte lipsticks. It also lasts for a crazy long time on the lips, and lasts after eating and drinking too. I would honestly recommend this to anyone, it’s what I would discribe as a universal nude. It’s perfect.

image

MAC Cremesheen Lipstick in ‘Creme Cup,’ £15.50
I’ve had this lipstick for a long time now, it was my first MAC lipstick. It is one of my favorite lipsticks ever, and is perfect to wear anytime, with nearly any kind of makeup. It really suits my skin colour and tone, but for some people I could imagine it would be hard to pull of, it has quite a funny tone in real life. It goes on really smooth, and is comfortable to wear on the lips. It lasts for a long time too. It is a pale blue toned pink/nude, and is really, really pretty. I would recommend for people with paler skin, and cool or neutral undertones. I wouldn’t go for this if you have olive undertones or a daker colour (it doesn’t look good on my sister…), but I do really love it.

image

L’Oreal Collection Exclusive Color Riche Lipstick in ‘Julliane’s Nude,’ £6.99
I’ve had this lipstick for so long now and I still reach for it near enough on a daily basis. These lipsticks have an amazing formula and I need to get so many more of these (I have a list, haha)! It is such a pretty medium nude/pink colour, which is super wearable, and would go with numerous makeup looks. The formula is just amazing, one of my favorites I’ve come across. It goes on the lips smoothly, stays on all day, and is very comfortable to wear. I would recommend this to anyone with a pale to medium skin colour, darker skin tones may be able to pull this off too actually. You need this in your life, and if the colour isn’t for you, other L’Oreal ambassadors have created a nude that suits them too, and would maybe be more to your taste (I also love JLo’s nude).

image

Essence Long Lasting Lipstick in ‘Nude Love,’ €2.89 (about £2.23)
I bought this in a little drugstore in Tenerife, and for the not so expensive price, it is really good. I reach for this quite often as it is quite understated, and good for day to day wear. The formula is quite creamy, so it feels comfortable and moisturising to wear. The formula is also long lasting, so it wears for a long period of time. The colour is super wearable and would suit pretty much anyone; it is quite a pale, ever so slightly pink, nude. If this brand is avalible where you live (you are very lucky!), or you ever come a cross a makeup stand with these on them, get them! I would recommend this to anyone with any skin colour/tone.

Healthy Eating and Living Tips

Here are some of my healthy eating and living tips that I live by. If you have any that I haven’t included, let me know.

1) Drink 2 litres of lemon water Drinking lemon water throughout the day has so many health benefits, including fushing out toxins, giving you extra nutrients, and improving skin. Water is all I drink (apart from green tea) and now it’s all I want to drink.

2) Don’t add sugar or salt
Adding sugar and salt to food and/or drinks, is unnessecary and unhealthy. You can only have a very minimal amount of salt everyday, so don’t waste it on one meal.

3) Eat Fish
Fish is a great source of protien and nutrients, so eating at least two servings every week is very beneficial to your health. Adding fishes like salmon and tuna to your diet, is a big step towards being healthy.

4) Keep red and salty meat to a minimum
The only meat I eat is fish and poultry (turkey, chicken, duck) and I completley skip things like beef and pork. Pork is a salty and fatty meat, which is better out of your diet than in.

5) Don’t eat fast food or takeaways
Personaly, I couldn’t think of anything worse than a takeaway or fast food, but if it’s a favorite of yours, limit it to once or twice a month. The reasons that it’s unhealthy are quite obvious, the food is fried.

6) No fizzy drinks or energy drinks
Fizzy drinks and energy drinks are full of so much sugar, it’s quite disgusting. Fizzy drinks are OK on occasion (once a week), but energy drinks are awful. If you need energy (which you really shouldn’t) have a coffee, but just one or two.

7) Swap coffee for green tea
Coffee isn’t the worst thing for you, and a cup or two a day won’t do you any harm (or good). Green tea (caffine free) is a great alternative and it is so healthy. It kick starts your metabolism and is really tasty too.

8) Eat loads of greens
Eating greens is super important, as they’re super healthy and have loads of health benefits aswell. Eating enough of these gives you a good balances diet.

9) Have a big breakfast
Breakfast really is the most important meal of the day, and you should make it the biggest too. You haven’t eaten for around ten hours beforehand so make sure you eat something like porridge, wholegrain cereal, or wholewheat toast.

10) Eat loads of fruit and veg
For your whole life you’ve been told that you should eat five a day, and it’s true. They have so many health benefits, such as preventing diseases, and making your skin look amazing.

10) Don’t skip meals
Skipping meals is honestly the worst thing you could do. It makes me feel slightly annoyed when I see people skipping meals. Your body will go into fat storing mode, and it will totally ruin your metabolism. Don’t do it. Just don’t.

12) Eat when your hungry
When your hungry, you need food, so eat. Like skipping meals, your body will start to store fat and that will not be good. Your brain knows what your body needs, so listen to it and eat.

13) Have 7 – 9 hours of sleep
Sleeping is so important and making sure you get seven to nine hours per night can do you so much good. It restores your body and it makes your skin look so much better. The next day will be so much easier if you arn’t tierd.
